Who is Alex Meunier?
I am an animation artist living in Vancouver. I've worked in animation since 2014, and have done many roles, but typically work in Layout/Design. I am currently supervising the Background line and paint team on an unannounced Netflix show, for Atomic Cartoons. I've been in this role since September 2023.
I've been on many teams, and in 2020 I took on my first leadership role, working as a Layout (line and paint) Supervisor. I spent over a year with a team of up to 12 artists at a time, working on 2 seasons of Netflix's Dogs in space. I thoroughly enjoyed working with my team. I found it greatly satisfying to help artists learn new ways of approaching problems, and just improve their skills through our work together. I think I was well suited to the role, and morale was high on the team. Supervising was one of my career highlights so far, and I'm really proud of how my time in the role was handled.
After that, I made the move to Global Mechanic, where I worked in a more general artist role. I did many types of design, as well as normal series layout. But in my time there I was also able to help define art styles for new upcoming projects being developed by the studio. I was able to hear a clients goal for a series art, and help steer it in the right direction. Project styles really ranged from normal tv animation to wild experimental and conceptual, pushed beyond what you'd normally see on tv. It was challenging, engaging, and rewarding. I loved my time in this role, and would like to take on more jobs like it.
My next milestone career goal is to work as an Art Director, which is something I'd like to achieve within a few years. I really enjoy helping projects take shape, and guiding artists down a sustainable, but visually appealing path. I like when things look nice!
Take a look at some pages, I've tried to organize portfolios into catagories.
